About Davina - Dance Classes and Workshops
One-Hour Dance Classes and Workshops
Here is a list of some of my dance workshops. Streamlined for presentation at sci-fi conventions, each of these hour long presentations are geared for complete novice but will also be interesting for experienced dancers. These workshops can be held in a regular programming space, though we will move some of the chairs.
Intro to Belly Dancing - This is an introduction to the basics of the movement vocabulary of Middle Eastern dance. During this presentation, attendees will dance as Davina gives an overview of the world of belly dance. A handout is available for this workshop.
Fluid Hands and Rippling Arms - This is a dancing workshop that focuses on some of the most exotic and graceful flowing motions from belly dance. Learn snake arms, classic Arabian arms and exotic flowing finger ripples. These moves can be added to your social dancing repertoire to wow your dance partners.
Walk like an Egyptian - Belly dance is more than wriggling tummies and vibrating hips. This workshop presents some of the ways that dancers move through space. Participants will learn to move dynamically. Great for costumers who want to develop gracefully fluid motions for costume presentations.
If your event is held in a community with a large dance population and you may enjoy more advanced classes. Here are some of my most popular hour-long advanced mini-workshops.
Advanced Belly Dance Technique - Hips - For dancers who have had some lessons, this hour presentation focuses on adding dynamic energy to the hips. From perfecting sharp stops, pops and locks to creating smooth and flowing transitions, this workshops focuses completely on hip work.
Advanced Belly Dance Technique - Totally Torso! - Learn to harness the power of the core center of the body in this intense mini-workshop that focuses on body waves and undulations as focal movements and transitions for dramatic slow taxim work.
Advanced Belly Dance Technique - From the Waist Up - This mini-workshop focuses on chest and shoulder articulations to really spice up your dance repertoire. This workshop will also address the positioning of the arms to frame the body during upper torso work.
Longer workshops are available in blocks of two and four hours. Four-hour workshops present short, but complete choreographies. Contact me for details on the music selection and dance style.
